Plum bowl 19,5cm x 6cm
This bowl is made of a plum tree my grandfather had planted on his farm in Moravia about 50 years ago. Nowadays those old trees are hardly giving any yield and unfortunately or fortunately this tree fell down in 2014. It was located along a field on the top of the hill in a beautiful countryside where strong wind would often come. I took a chain saw, processed the wood and cleaned the area. The diameter of the log was about 30cm and the wood was healthy. Then I brought it to my workshop in Prague and started turning. Plum wood has a unique colour and texture and the bowl has no cracks or knots. I used safe food finish complying with the norm EN 71 Art.III. The dimensions are diameter 19,5cm and height 6cm. -

Bird cherry bowl 33 x 7,5 cm
This wood comes from the Šumava Mountains, where my father-in-law lives. It belongs to the genus of Prunus such as the plums, cherries and apricots. This tree fell down so I helped him to process the wood and took a few pieces. Generally the sapwood of this wood is lighter and the heartwood one is darker but it is not the case with this bowl. The bowl is finished with tung oil, which is oil pressed from nuts of the tree of Aleurites fordii. The diameter is 33 cm and height 7.5 cm. -
Walnut bowl 33 x 8 cm
I got this wood from my colleague from work by an accident. On that Friday we had been talking about our plans for the upcoming weekend and she had mentioned that she would help her uncle with loading wood. When I found out that it was walnut wood and was interested in how it had been cut and chopped up. I was lucky the length of the logs was the same as the diameter. I made two beautiful bowls for her family to have a memory of the tree in return. You can see a branching of the tree on this bowl so the texture is unique and the whole design is enhanced by the cone in the middle. It is finished with several layers of tung oil and polished to high gloss. The diameter is 33 cm and height 8 cm.
