I have started using a new home made wood lathe that I bought a few years ago and it had needed attaching a motor. The headstock, the tailstock and the legs are cast iron the rest is metal. The swing over the bed is 64cm and the length to turn is 130cm. I equipped it with a frequency changer to be able to control revs electronically. It has four ranges of control of revs: 0–500, 0 – 1,000, 0 – 1,500, 0 – 3,000. The motor had 2.5HP but the lathe should need stronger one. I was turning a huge piece of wood with 60 cm in diameter and at some point it was not strong enough. It sounds to be a reliable and heavy duty lathe.
