A cheap and simple toolrest for a wood lathe

January 9, 2020

I would like to share how to make a cheap and simple tool rest for a lathe. I used bars 25 and 30mm in diameter and L-profile 50x30x5 mm and 40x25x4 mm, which is strong enough, has a suitable domes working edge and allows a gouge great angles.

First I cut the lengths needed, filed the edges and sanded the surface. Then I had a friend to weld the parts together. The welds were cleaned and the toolrests were degreased. In the end base and final paint was applied.

The total cost for four toolrests was about 4 EURO. It took me about 4 hours. I am slowJ!

They are meant for Coronet Herald from Recor Power, Ligmet KS1200 and a heavy-duty homemade lathe.

I hope it will help! Thank you for reading!
